St. Stephen's 'Main' Choir
If you love singing and praising God, you are already a part of our parish choir!
St. Stephen’s choir ministry is actively involved in the Sunday liturgies and encourages all members of the congregation to join us in singing as we lift up our hearts and voices to God. In addition to Sunday liturgies, the choir (well over 60 members) is present to respond to services including the celebration of weddings, the farewell of loved ones during funerals and many events throughout the course of the church year.
Choir members need only bring their heart and soul when they enter the loft each Sunday. These are the two key pieces to our Sunday liturgy celebration. There is no requirement of singing or musical experience and there is no expectation to learn notes or the Ukrainian language. These things eventually develop over time with patience, support and direction.
The choir typically rehearses on Wednesday evenings; in addition they gather each year over the Christmas season to carol with other choirs as part of an annual televised Ukrainian carol festival. They also carol for parishioners and those who request visits to their home over the Christmas season. This tradition has continued for almost 40 years.
St. Stephen’s Choir has recorded a number of liturgies and hymns over the years. These include celebrations of the Divine Liturgy with various parish priests as well as 2 collections of hymns entitled Peace Be with You and Magnify the Lord.
During the period of COVID-19 isolation, St. Stephen’s parish Divine Liturgies were recorded and placed on the parish website each Sunday to reach out to parishioners and visitors. Although this was a very different experience for many, it was most appreciated.
Our parish choir wishes to thank so many individuals who have continued to support us in so many ways. This includes our pastor, who leads us and the many organizations in the parish, those who assist in directing the choir, those who communicate the many messages to our members and those who support us through prayer, kind words and financial support. It is through this support that we are able to continue our music ministry.
